حَلْقوس أو حَلْقُوس: ويقال أيضا: حرقوص وخالقوس وهو في المغرب الحديد المحرق أو المتكلس (المستعيني) ويضيف إليه: ((يقال إنها كلمة بربرية)). غير أن هذا خطأ لأنها الكلمة اليونانية حالكوس، ففي معجم المنصوري روسختج هو النحاس المحرق بالكبريت المسمى بالمغرب حلقوساً.
