(طَنَّ) الطَّاءُ وَالنُّونُ أَصْلٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى صَوْتٍ. يُقَالُ: طَنَّ الذُّبَابُ طَنِينًا. وَيَقُولُونَ: ضَرَبَ يَدَهُ فَأَطَنَّهَا، كَأَنَّهُ يُرَادُ بِهِ صَوْتُ الْقَطْعِ.

وَمِمَّا لَيْسَ عِنْدِي عَرَبِيًّا قَوْلُهُمْ لِلْحُزْمَةِ مِنَ الْحَطَبِ وَغَيْرِهِ: طُنٌّ. وَيَقُولُونَ: طَنَّ، إِذَا مَاتَ، وَلَيْسَ بِشَيْءٍ.
