جُسْت: كلمة فارسية معناها بحث وفحص. وهي أيضاً اسم علم من العلوم هو فرع من فن الخلاف. ففي ابن خلكان (1: 669): كان إماما في فن الخلاف خصوصا الجست وهو أول من أفرده بالتصنيف ومن تقدمه كان يمزجه بخلاف المتقدمين.
