(جَيَدَ) الْجِيمُ وَالْيَاءُ وَالدَّالُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ، وَهُوَ الْعُنُقُ. يُقَالُ جِيدٌ وَأَجْيَادٌ. وَالْجَيْدُ: طُولُ الْجِيدِ. وَالْجَيْدَاءُ: الطَّوِيلَةُ الْجِيدِ. وَأَمَّا قَوْلُ الْأَعْشَى:

رِجَالَ إِيَادٍ بَأَجْيَادِهَا

فَيُقَالُ إِنَّهَا مُعَرَّبَةٌ وَإِنَّهُ أَرَادَ الْأَكْسِيَةَ.
