الضَّأْن: مَهْمُوز الْعين جمع ضائن خلاف الماعز والمعز جمعه وهما نَوْعَانِ من جنس الْغنم وَالْأُنْثَى مِنْهُمَا ضائنة وماعزة وَيُقَال للْأولِ بِالْفَارِسِيَّةِ ميش وَالثَّانِي بزو أما الشَّاة اسْم جنس لَهما كالغنم وَيُقَال لَهَا بِالْفَارِسِيَّةِ (كوسفند) كَذَا فِي الصِّحَاح.
