ك ن ن كنّه وأكنّه: ستره، واكتنّ واستكنّ: استتر، وأكننته في نفسي: أضمرته. واجعله في كنّ، وربّ البيت ذي الأكنان. ونثر كنانته وكنائنه. وبنى على باب داره كنّةً: سترة مثل الجناح. وقعد على الكانون وهو المصطلى. " وأثقل من الكانون " وهو كانون الشتاء الذي هو أشده برداً أو كانون القوم الذي يكنّون عنه الحديث. قال أبو دهبل:فليت كوانيناً من أهلي وأهلها ... بأجمعهم في بحر دجلة لجّجواالله منعونا من نحب وأوقدوا ... علينا وشبّوا نار صرمٍ تأججوتقول: أحسن من الكانون، في الكانون. وهذه كنة فلانٍ لامرأة ابنه أو أخيه، وهنّ كنائنه.
